I am a dyed in the wool feltmaker, but I first became a fiber artist when I was five years old when my mother taught me to embroider. I have added many new fiber art skills since then. Learning is important to me and I have studied with inspiring teachers. I dye my own silks, decorate them with handmade stamps, and draw and write on silk with India ink and paints among other things. During this pandemic I am taking a number of online classes to learn new skills and I practice practice practice. I was trained as a researcher and I bring those skills to my work, too. The technical aspects of my work are important, but my favorite part of felting and the most important part is design, testing, and experimenting with new materials and approaches to design. And of course, practice. I keep my sanity as best as I can.
