I grew up and attended college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but I have lived in the Washington DCarea for the majority of my professional career. I currently live in Reston, Virginia. For more than 25years, I earned my living by designing and painting large-scale art projects: murals and scenic art forspecial events , theater, and ballet. I retired and began an "Encore" career in a completely differentfield: Mobile Operations for blood donor services at INOVA Helath Systems. In the meantime, I beganfocusing my creative energy on small-scale art projects: drawing, painting, and mixed mediacompositions. These days, my work is focused on celebrating nature and the incredible beauty of ourplanet. I have a romantic and adventurous spirit that is drawn to the landscapes of the Hudson RiverSchool. For me, the work of artists like Albert Bierstadt and Frederic Church are like a sanctuary fromthe over-stimulation, cacophony, and chaos of our digital world. Personally, I am nostalgic for thedays when humans had a deeper and more primal connection to the Earth.
I studied Painting at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh (A.A. 1978), and Design at Point Park University (B.A. Summa cum Laude, 1982). Upon graduation, I was awarded by the faculty “Most Outstanding Graduate in the Department of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts”. I did my graduate work in Art History; studying at the University of Pittsburgh (M.A. Magna cum Laude, 1986). After graduation, I lived in Germany for two years and did additional coursework at the University of Bamberg. While in Germany, I painted my first theatrical backdrops. Since then, I found a niche in large-scale paintings: murals, backdrops, and theatrical scenery. My clients have included: Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts, Manassas Ballet Theatre, The National Air and Space Museum, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Fairfax County Park Authority, The Italian Embassy, and The National Wildlife Federation, to name a few.
My drawings, paintings, and collages have been in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and in the United States. Recently, I was juried into the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association and have participated in several group exhibitions. My work received an honorable mention in the “Contemporary Art Gallery Online” exhibit, February 2019. Several of my paintings were also on display in a juried exhibit presented by The Vienna Arts Society, “Treasury of Art Show”, 2019.
